The
Drewry Family Cemetery is located behind Major Humphrey and Frances
Simmons Drewry's homestead, Cedar Grove, near the town of Drewryville,
Va. The home was built shortly after their marriage in 1787 and
the first recorded burial is for Frances Drewry, his wife, in
1825. Many of the older 19th century stones are weathered or broken
and extremely difficult to read in the pictures. To assist you
in determining what the inscriptions are on the tombstones I have
included them here.
As
with many small family cemeteries located on private lands the
Drewry Cemetery fell into bad shape over the years. However, thanks
to a few the Drewry cemetery has been improved by the addition
of a brick wall and the clean up of the grounds. Much of the credit
goes to Louis Paschal Jervey, Jr. for the improvement and a placque
bears his name at the cemetery entrance acknowledging the work
he did to preserve the cemetery.
