Last Will and Testament
Humphrey Drewry (1730 - 1797)
Southampton County, Va.

In the name of God, Amen. I, Humphrey Drewry, of Southampton County, being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and memory, thanks be to God, that it is appointed for all men once to die. I do make, constitute and appoint this my last will and testament . My soul I resign to God that gave it hoping for pardon and remission of all my sins through the merits of Jesus Christ.

Item 1st: My body I resign to the earth from whence it was taken to be decently buried by my executor hereafter mentioned.

Item 2nd: I give and bequeath to my daughter Rebecca Drewry five pounds current money.

Item 3rd: I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Pond my land and plantation wherein I now live to her and her heirs forever; also one feather bed and furniture and her choice of two cows and earlings.

Item 4th: I give to my daughter Hannah Simmons one negroe girl named Cherry at the value of thirty pounds which sum is to be deducted from a division of my negroes hereafter mentioned, one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever.

Item 5th: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Drewry my negroe girl Lucy at the value of thirty pounds which is to be deducted from a division of my negroes hereafter mentioned also one feather bed and furniture to her and her heirs forever.

Item 6th: Remainder of my estate to be sold by my executors and the money arising therefrom to be divided in the following manner -- to my daughter Hannah Simmons (deducting the thirty pounds before mentioned) one third to her and her heirs forever, to my daughter Elizabeth Drewry one third (deducting the thirty pounds mentioned) to her and her heirs forever

Item 7th: I give and bequeath to my daughter Rhody Andrews children the remaining one third provided she has child or children that survives to the age twenty one years if not the said one third to be divided between my two daughters Hannah and Elizabeth.

Item 8th: I give and bequeath to my daughter Rhody Andrews five shillings.

Item 9th: I appoint my well beloved friends Samuel Drewry and John Pond, Jr. my executors to this my last will and testament given under my hand and seal this 15th day of April 1796.
