Buddy Reef Pictures

Year 2000 Update! One of the most convenient things about Buddy Beach Resort was the close proximity of the diving. Just a short two minute walk from the room to the dive shop and a short 50-yard swim to the reef. It was great. The storm of November 1999 damaged Buddy Reef quite a bit by depositing sand on much of the coral. While the coral was not as good as it was previously we found some differences in the marine life. This year on virtually every dive we were blessed with lots of French and Queen angels, almost as it there was an abundance of them. Brittle stars were also abundant. It seems as though there were fewer eels this trip. It's still a good place to dive and take pictures.

Granted the coral may not have been the prettiest we've ever seen, but the convenience of having Buddy Reef right outside our door was wonderful. Especially when it came to those night dives we love so much. On our very first night dive at Buddy Reef we were blessed by a visit from Charlie, the resident Tarpon. Unfortunately I had already shot the entire roll of film so there is no picture.

Anne certainly deserves her nickname "Eagle Eyes." She is absolutely great at spotting things that most (including me) would bypass. Thanks to her I got this shot of a beautiful Rock Fish. Having found it, she shooed it to make it move giving me that beautiful wing shot. Almost looks like a Monarch Butterfly, doesn't it?

And, how's that for camouflage?
